The number "8" holds special meaning for the Ovechkin family: Alexander began playing under this number as a tribute to his mother, Tatyana Ovechkina, a two-time Olympic champion of the USSR—it was her number on the Dynamo basketball team. That’s why, in Caviar’s design, the number 8 is adorned with red jewel enamel.
